Tournament Volunteers
The Providence Cup Tournament Weekend is not only an educational experienced, but it is fun. The Providence folks greatly appreciate the time and energy that volunteers of all ages and backgrounds devote to making the tournament a successful educational experience for students. We could not do it without your help and your care.

During the Tournament Weekend, volunteers can serve in the capacity of a Scoring Judge, a Ruling Judge, or an Event Volunteer.

Volunteers do not need to have experience, as training is provided by the Providence folks.

Below is a brief description of what is asked of each volunteer:

Presiding Judge. In each courtroom there will be one presiding judge who is responsible for maintaining order, enforcing the rules of the tournament, keeping the trial moving forward on time, ruling on evidentiary motions, and generally overseeing the trial procedures. There will be a 30 minute orientation that each judge is required to attend that will discuss both judicial tips and the nuances of the case problem.

A volunteer must be an attorney to serve as a Ruling Judge.

Scoring Judge. In each courtroom there will be scoring judges who will evaluate the student performances and who will be responsible for completing a scoring sheet based upon the performances of each team. Students are scored on their presentation skills, not the merits of the case. Scoring judges will be given a thirty-minute orientation about the case problem and scoring criterion.

A volunteer need not be an attorney to serve as a Ruling Judge.

Event Volunteer. Volunteers will assist in greeting teams, helping with and generally making the tournament an enjoyable experience.

Everyone is invited to be an Event Volunteer.

ALLVolunteers are handsomely rewarded by being invited to attend the scheduled social events of the tournament, and each volunteer will also receive a priceless gift, such as a lanyard , a shiny pen, or some old socks.
