EDUCATION
DAVID C. SCHOTT graduated with Dean's List Honors from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management and Policy Analysis, and he received his Juris Doctorate with Moot Court Honors from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
David began his legal career in Cook County, Illinois (Chicago), which touted itself to be
"the world's largest consolidated legal system". David completed a four-year tenure as a Cook County Assistant State's Attorney where he accrued an undefeated jury trial record and was accepted as a member of the Federal Trial Bar.
David then accepted the position of General Counsel for Hedeen International. David was responsible for all commercial transactional drafting and review. Under David's management, the company also prevailed in its $33MM prosecution of the "MicroMachines Litigation" contract and trademark infringement claim in Federal District Court.
In 1997 David immigrated to Denver, Colorado where he opened his current law practice. David is referred to as "an American Barrister" as much of his practice is focused on serving as trial counsel for other attorneys. However he also enjoys domestic relations counseling. In his career, he has served as counsel to a wide range of entities, including, hospitals, manufacturing facilities, gas/oil servicing entities, non-profit organizations, and theater companies.
David was instrumental in the establishment of The Providence Foundation of Law & Leadership, which is dedicated to the development of high school students and providing college scholarships for underprivileged students. He serves as the Executive Director, for which he accepts no salary, and he serves on the faculty of the Trial Masters Institute and The Providence Academy.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
David's passion for education also has him serving on the Adjunct Faculty of the University of Denver Sturm School of Law and serving as head coach for the law school's national ABA Trial Team. He also volunteers his time by serving as head coach for the Regis Jesuit High School Trial Teams, and the Bear Creek High School Trial Teams. Throughout his career David has served on the faculty of the National Institute of Legal Education for programs hosted annually at Stanford University and The American University (D.C.), the faculty of the Constitutional Rights Foundation, and the faculty of the University of Denver's program for gifted and talented students. He has taught management, ethics, and negotiation courses at the collegiate level. David authored The Trial Practice Handbook, which is scheduled for release in early 2008.
INTERESTS
David makes his home in Denver, Colorado. In his spare time, David enjoys playing the guitar and singing with his band, competing in triathlons and participative sports, creative writing, serving as a referee for youth soccer, and good humor -- preferably "dry" (…shaken and stirred).
